March Member Meeting: Inclusive Design & the Maker with Kim McBrien Evans
Inclusive design in clothing is a catch-all term that invokes a utopian dream where everyone has clothing that fits them, is affordable, and functions well for their needs and abilities. As knitters, with the ability to create our own clothing stitch by stitch, we have ultimate control of the size, shape and details of our clothing. Join Kim and learn about the maker's role in inclusive design.

Find out what "ease" really means and how to choose ease that's right for you. We’ll look at ways to improve your sweater knitting before you start your pattern. Learn how to create perfect sweater fabric and how to take the most important measurements for sweater fit, and apply that information to how to choose the best size for you. We'll look at how to choose the best sweater size and how to build a “hybrid size” when your measurements span more than one size. Finally, we'll look at the maker's role in improving access to inclusive sizing, and 3 things you can do TODAY to make your next sweater, your dream sweater.

Virtual Trunk Show

This month we're featuring Kim's yarn company, Indigodragonfly! The trunk show will start at 6:30 pm so be sure to sign in early! (Regular meeting programming will start at 7:00pm)

We offer our individual and unique takes on traditional yarn dyeing, refusing to be a cog in the cookie-cutter yarn industry. We specialize in luxury yarns with an emphasis on finding the best yarns as well as developing custom yarns with our global-wide mill partners to bring you products no-one else has. We are also well-known for our humour – we could call that blue skein Dye Lot #346 but where’s the fun in that – one of our yarn clubs is the Smart-Ass Knitters for World Domination Club; ’nuff said?

PS: Kim is offering a discount code just for our Members! MKGMarch will be good through May 15th!

Meeting Logistics:

This meeting will be virtual via Zoom and you will need to pre-register:

https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZArcuytrjIpEtDW_rKp4caFU1zjrNPGi9EI

You should receive an email from Zoom immediately with your access link as well as a reminder email from Zoom the day of the meeting.

You can use either a smartphone, tablet, laptop computer, or desktop computer to join the meeting.

A couple of Zoom housekeeping notes:

  • Please make sure your Zoom username is your first and last name if you'd like to be eligible for the member door prize drawing.
  • If you join the meeting using a laptop or desktop and don't have a camera, you will not be visible to others.
  • The larger the device, the more people you'll be able to see at once and the easier it will be to see the chat function.
  • When you log on, you can choose to be visible or not (but we'd love to see your faces! :))
  • To minimize background noise, you will be muted when you join. Only the speaker will be audible.
  • You will be able to mute and unmute yourself but please stay respectful of our speakers. We will mute you if your background noise is distracting.
  • We will have a brief breakout session between the business portion of the meeting and the speaker. This way we can connect and socialize in smaller groups.
  • Make yourselves at home, literally! Grab a drink, grab a snack, grab your knitting, and kick back.
  • The meeting will still be social, just in a different way. There is a chat feature, and we encourage you to use it!
  • We will be recording our meetings and posting them (when applicable) to the members-only section of our website.
  • We will have designated "tech support" to assist you via private chat for any tech issues that you may face. Just type "help" in the chat function to let us know you'd like assistance.

We hope to see you there!
