MKG-Meeting  August Guild Meeting View Details

Please join us Tuesday, August 18th at 7:00pm for a talk by Gretchen Funk entitled “What Hand Knitters Can Do with a Knitting Machine”

In this talk Gretchen will fill you in on why and how she uses a home knitting machine along with her hand knitting to create “hybrid” knits, as this mode of combined process knitting gains popularity. No machine necessary to listen and find out how useful this machinery can be in aiding the creative hand knitter.

Gretchen Funk learned to hand knit from her dad when she was small, and has been teaching knitting for over 15 years. She knits lots of sweaters, and loves teaching and empowering knitters. Her classes at the Yarnery in St. Paul, Minnesota are a great place to solve problems and get inspired.

Gretchen is also an avid machine knitter, and loves combining hand and machine knitting to make hybrid knits. Every month you can find her at the Midwest Machine Knitters Collaborative meeting.

Gretchen’s designs are available on Ravelry, and in the books Wearwithall: Knits for Your Life, What Would Madam Defarge Knit?, and Knitting Sweaters from Around the World (as well as scarves, and socks).

We’ve really been enjoying our virtual meetings and it seems like you do too! We appreciate all feedback during this process and welcome suggestions as well.

 MEETING LOGISTICS:

Link HERE to join. If you need it, the Meeting ID is 873 6978 8478.

You can use either a smartphone, tablet, laptop computer, or desktop computer to join the meeting.

If you do not already have Zoom, you may be prompted to download the app and create a free account. This process should take less than 5 minutes. (Zoom is quite reputable! It's also the platform that we plan to use for meetings for the foreseeable future!)

If you happen have multiple device options, here are some considerations when choosing your device:
  • If you join the meeting using a laptop or desktop and don't have a camera, you will not be visible to others (optional!)
  • The larger the device, the larger the viewing area and the more people you'll be able to see at once.
  • A laptop or desktop will make utilizing the chat easier (also optional!)
A couple of additional notes before joining:
  • To minimize background noise, you will be muted when you join and for the duration of the meeting. Only the speaker will be audible.
  • When you log on, you can choose to be visible or not (but we'd love to see your faces! :) )
  • Make yourselves at home, literally! Grab a drink, grab a snack, grab your knitting, and kick back.
  • The meeting will still be social, just in a different way. There is a chat feature, and we encourage you to use it!
  • We will have designated "tech support" to assist you via private chat for any tech issues that you may face. Just type "help" in the chat function to let us know you'd like assistance.
  • Bear with us (and with yourselves!) as we figure out this new world of digital events together!
We hope to see you soon!

We encourage you to join the Guild so we can continue to offer programs like these.
