MKG-Meeting March Guild Meeting - CANCELLED View Details
***While the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation is still developing in Minnesota, we have decided to cancel next week's meeting out of an abundance of caution. We are working with the speakers to reschedule the presentation for another date.***
This month's meeting will be a panel discussion all about Shetland Wool Week. "Shetland Wool Week is a world renowned celebration of Britain's most northerly native sheep, the Shetland textile industry and the rural farming community on these islands." Jeanne Burns, Kris King, Amy Detjen, and Paula Elsten will talk about their experiences attending Wool Week and give tips on going yourself.
This meeting topic was suggested and planned by one of our members, Jeanne. If you have an idea for an upcoming meeting please let us know!
There will be a show and tell at this meeting. You are welcome to show off one finished hand knit item. Please sign up here before the meeting day or sign up in person at the meeting. Please provide the pattern name and yarn used if possible.
As always, we need volunteers to help out at this meeting with setting up and checking in attendees. Please sign up here.
This meeting is free and open to the public, however we encourage you to join the Guild so we can continue to offer programs like these.
MKG-Special Event Yarnover 2020 Dinner - CANCELLED View Details
March 15, 2020
To the Members of the Minnesota Knitters’ Guild:
I really cannot believe how many times I find myself saying these are unprecedented times we find ourselves in. In times of strife we all need to find some times of solace more than ever. Thank goodness for our knitting skills.
We continue to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our Guild members at our events, at this point most of those decisions are to forgo our meetings in an effort to do our part to limit COVID-19 exposures as requested at both a State and Federal Level. We did have a regularly scheduled board meeting on March 10, 2020 where we had a discussion of Yarnover but over the last couple of days things continued to evolve in which decision making needed to occur. On Friday when the Minnesota Department of Health made recommendations it required a discussion and ultimate vote of the Board.
Event organizers cancelling or postponing gatherings with 250 or more people, including concerts, conferences, professional and amateur performances or sporting events. https://www.health.state.mn.us/news/pressrel/2020/covid031320.html
Our attendance has been over 800 people the last couple of years and in discussion with the Crowne Plaza an agreement was reached to cancel Yarnover for 2020.
This is our 34th year of Yarnover and we have a wonderful committee who has worked hard to put this on. Not to mention: teachers excited to teach, vendors who are eager to sell us wonderful yarn and materials, as well as everyone wanting to learn and be in a knitting community. These are not decisions we take lightly as there are many parties involved but it is the best and safest one for our Guild. We set our sights on 2021, where we will come together and celebrate our 35th year!
If you are craving our Guild knitting community we have started a virtual KAL in our Ravelry Group. Please stop by and check out what our members are currently knitting.
As always, should you have any questions please let me know.

MKG-Meeting May Guild Meeting View Details
Join us for our first-ever virtual meeting -- a round of knitting-related trivia with Cori Eichelberger! This meeting will take place over Zoom, and we'll post and email the link on Tuesday, shortly before the meeting starts (7:00, as usual!)
Cori has developed a new interactive game based on the original matching card game of Apples to Apples. Using knitting trivia and fill in the blank prompts, the group works its way through some hilarious, amazing, awe-inspiring and downright naughty answers given by the small groups teamed up to play against one another. This is the perfect introduction for a group of knitters at a retreat, a knitting event or LYS social gathering. Cori uses a power point display to keep everyone on track while also playing emcee for the game.
All you need to play is a piece of paper and a writing utensil, and Zoom. (Zoom is free and highly regarded. If you do not already have it, you may be prompted to download it when you click on the event link on Tuesday night. And Zoom can be used on any device -- a smart phone, a tablet, a laptop computer, or a desktop computer.).
So grab a snack and a drink of your choice and enjoy a little face time with your fellow MKG members! (We're new to virtual meetings, so we appreciate your patience and your feedback as we explore this new world over the next couple of months!)
About Cori:
Cori Eichelberger, a former HS English teacher to at-risk students, has spent 20 years teaching beginning knitting and technique classes. She co-authored Minnesota 52: 16 Knits Inspired by the Road, under the KnitCahoots brand. Her 50 Shades of Sweaters and Shawls classes are extremely popular at yarn stores and retreats throughout the U.S. Iroc is Cori spelled backwards and she does enjoy knitting in her rocker recliner. Cori, has a Youtube knitting podcast where the emphasis is on inspiring knitters to make beautiful sweaters and shawls. She is known for her love of color. She lives in SW area of Minneapolis with her husband, daughter and a large chocolate labradoodle.
MKG-Special Event Stitch 'n' Pitch with the Twins View Details
