Harriet's Hat KAL
I've been wanting to do another KAL with the Guild for awhile now, but wasn't sure what would be the right project then I saw Harriet's Hat.
Not only is this a beautiful hat that looks like a fun knit, but all proceeds from the sale of the pattern go to the Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal. There is no MRI machine in Shetland and people have to travel to Glasgow or Aberdeen to get a scan. This trip takes a lot of time, costs a lot, and it often delayed by weather. Like many knitters, I have a soft spot for Shetland and its knitting heritage.
We have permission from the MRI Maakers to host this KAL and hope our KAL will encourage other Guilds and groups around the world to join in.
To join us in the KAL all you need to do is buy the pattern here, get your yarn, and get ready to cast on! You do not need to be a MKG member to join us in this KAL.
Dates:
Cast On - Saturday, June 8th (WWKIP Day)
End - Saturday, July 20th
Prizes:
We'll have a drawing for prizes for those who post of picture of a finished hat on our Ravelry group by the end of the day July 20th. We'll also have a few other prizes along the way.
Chat & Follow Along:
Our Ravelry group will be the place to chat, share pictures, and ask questions during the KAL.

Textile Center Wall Display Pieces Need!
The Guild is responsible for Guild Wall at the Textile Center for July and August. Our theme is Knitting and the MKG at the MN State Fair.
We have spent time going through the Fair archives for historical stuff and have lots of current photos, but I need actual knit items to display. We're looking for items that have won a ribbon at the fair. The items have to hang on the wall, so smaller, lighter things would be best, things like hats, mittens, gloves, shawls, scarves, light sweaters, & even non-conventional things. I may have a shadow box or two that can be used for items like knit toys or dolls. I will also need to know the pattern name & yarn used if you have it. If you have the ribbon and/or the judges comments to go with it even better!
If you can help, please email Kathy or talk to her at the May or June Guild meeting. Items can also be brought to those meetings.
World Wide Knit In Public Day '19
BETTER LIVING THROUGH STITCHING TOGETHER!
WWKIP Day began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. Neighbors could spend all their lives never knowing that the other knits. This a specific day to get out of your house and go to a local event (with your knitting in tow) just for you and people like you. Consider this a spark, to ignite a fire; getting all of the closeted knitters out into fresh air.
Join the MKG on WWKIP Day Saturday, June 8th from 12pm - 2pm at Dual Citizen Brewery in St. Paul. Register for prize drawings, learn to knit, donate hand knit items to our 2019 charities, or just socialize and knit (or crochet). Everyone is welcome.
Dual Citizen Brewing is in the C&E Lofts Building at 725 Raymond Ave. just off of University in St. Paul. The taproom is a bright, open space with lots of big windows and seating. They have beer, of course, but also root beer, kombucha, and cold brewed coffee on tap. There are also sodas and water available. You are welcome to bring in your own food or order from the Naughty Greek next door. Kids are welcome, but unfortunately dogs are not at this time.
See the Dual Citizen site for information on parking, there are free lots about two blocks away plus there are meters and street parking. The Green Line stops about 1/2 a block away and they are right off the Pelham Bikeway part of the St. Paul Grand Rounds.
If you are hosting your own WWKIP Day event, please feel free to share the details in the comments.
Get the most out of your love of knitting! Membership benefits include pre-registration for Yarnover, organized public service projects and camaraderie with fellow knitters. Annual dues are $30.
