Statement re: #Diversknitty
In light of the difficult but necessary conversations currently happening on social media around racism in the broader knitting community, we as a board felt compelled to make a statement.
First of all, we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge some of the BIPOC folks on Instagram (including but by no means limited to @su.krita, @thecolormustard, @ocean_bythesea, @astitchtowear, and @tina.say.knits) who brought this topic to light in such a major way this past week. Thank you.
We want the Minnesota Knitters' Guild to be a place where everyone feels like they belong. We also know that intentions are simply intentions; there's more work to be done.
We commit to going beyond passively pointing back to the words of an existing inclusion statement. Part of this means doing all we can to make sure each member and guest feel warmly welcomed at each of our programs, and part of this means actively seeking out and supporting BIPOC speakers, teachers, designers, and vendors.
As a starting point, we are gathering input and suggestions with a brief survey found at this link.
We commit to keeping this conversation open and ongoing. It is our hope in 2019 and beyond that our community becomes more inclusive, making us all stronger and better as a whole.
Our ears are open.
Sincerely,
The Minnesota Knitters' Guild Board

Early bird registration for Yarnover 2019 starts this Saturday, January 5 at 8:00am CST! Yarnover is Friday, April 26 - Sunday, April 28 at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest. You must have signed up to be a MKG 2019 member by December 31, 2018 to qualify for early registration. (Please keep in mind that there may be a high number of people registering on Saturday morning. If you have problems getting on, please try again.)
Make sure when you are registering for classes to also register for the Friday Yarnover dinner featuring keynote speaker Xandy Peters and our annual Yarnover Shawl Contest. (The dinner is not included with class registration, you must register for it as well.)
You can get all the details in the Yarnover brochure.
Registration for those who didn't get a MKG membership by December 31, 2018 will open on Saturday, January 12. You need to join the Guild to attend the Yarnover dinner or classes.
If you are planning on staying at the Marriott for Yarnover weekend, I highly recommend getting your hotel reservations early as there are multiple events at the hotel that weekend. Use this link to make sure you get our discounted rate and count towards our block of rooms.
You can also call 1-877-303-1681 and ask for the MN Knitters’ Guild and Yarnover rate to get the discount.
Remember these rooms are suites with a sofa bed in the living room, so share a room & make it a party!
Get the most out of your love of knitting! Membership benefits include pre-registration for Yarnover, organized public service projects and camaraderie with fellow knitters. Annual dues are $30.
