Upcoming Fiber Events January '18

Posted in News by Kathy Lewinski on Dec 29th, 2017

January 6 - 7, 2018

Jen Geigley will be at StevenBe for two days, January 6th and 7th. Jen is best known for her Gap-tastic Cowl pattern on Ravelry. She has released two new books, "Visions" and "Visions Kids".

On January 6th from 1 to 4pm, Jen will be hosting a chunky couture knit along, as well as signing copies of her books. She will also have a full trunk show of all the designs from both books.

On January 7th from noon to 3pm, she will be teaching her workshop, "Just Bleach It!" Students are encouraged to knit up one of Jen's Rowan Denim designs, "Bleach" or "Venice," and bring it in to learn her bleach splatter technique (featured in "Visions").

For more information and to sign up, visit StevenBe.com.

Sally Melville - Yarnover 2018 Teacher Snapshot

Posted in News by Kate Westlund on Dec 23rd, 2017

Sally has published seven knitting books, including The Knit Stitch (which has sold over 250,000 copies and been translated into French and Russian) and has traveled for 25 years to teach her craft.

www.sallymelvilleknits.com

At Yarnover 2018, she’ll teach two classes that are invaluable for knitters of all levels. In the morning, learn how to make the hard and long work of a knitted garment pay off with “Knit to Flatter and Fit.” Her afternoon class, “Essential Skills,” focuses on filling holes in our knitting repertoire.

If you can’t get enough of Sally Melville (we certainly can’t!) then stick around for her Sunday presentation. She’ll talk about why we knit and the benefits of it, including how it relates to global economics and good citizenship. This talk is free and open to the public; we especially hope that members traveling from farther away will take advantage of this rare opportunity to attend a monthly meeting.

Check out the Yarnover 2018 brochure for more information, and pay your 2018 dues by 12/31 to be eligible for early bird registration!

Patty Lyons - Yarnover 2018 Teacher Snapshot

Posted in News by Kate Westlund on Dec 22nd, 2017

Patty is a long-time favorite of Yarnover attendees, which is why we invite her back year after year! She is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the “why” not just the “how” in her pursuit of training the “mindful knitter.”

pattylyons.com

She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking, both of which are the focus of her Yarnover 2018 class offerings!

In the morning, Patty will teach “Shape Up!” in which you’ll learn to read your knitting to make the best decisions on increases and decreases (she promises you’ll never look at your knitting the same way again!) In the afternoon, learn how, when, and why to modify a sweater pattern in “Reading Between the Lines.”

You can’t go wrong with either class! See what else is in store for Yarnover 2018 in the brochure. And don’t forget to renew your dues by the end of the year!

Melissa Leapman - Yarnover 2018 Teacher Snapshot

Posted in News by Kate Westlund on Dec 22nd, 2017

Melissa Leapman is a widely-published freelance designer who has worked with many leading ready-to-wear manufacturers and design houses in New York City. In addition to being a return teacher to Yarnover, Melissa was the featured speaker at our November 2016 meeting (look through the Facebook album to see how much fun we had!)

She’ll teach two classes perfect for the texture junkie: "Crazy Cool Cables" in the morning, and "Two-Faced Knitting" in the afternoon. Both classes are a great way for an intermediate knitter to take her knitting to the next level!

Learn more about these and the other Yarnover 2018 offerings in the brochure. And be sure to sign up or renew your dues by 12/31 so you can register for classes with the other early birds!

Bristol Ivy - Yarnover 2018 Teacher Snapshot

Posted in News by Kate Westlund on Dec 16th, 2017

At Yarnover 2018, she is teaching an all-day brioche workshop in which students will learn how to knit brioche flat and in the round, how to knit and decrease in pattern, how to knit brioche seamless, and how to incorporate two colors.

In addition to her Saturday class, Bristol is the keynote address at the Meet the Teachers dinner on Friday night. In the “Camera Roll Full of Sweater Photos: Finding Inspiration and Turning It Into Reality,” Bristol will speak to knitting inspiration and where she finds it. Questions from the audience will be welcome.

Registration opens Saturday, January 6. Join or renew to get class and dinner tickets before they’re gone! (General registration for people who join or renew after the first of the year will open on January 13.)

JC Briar - Yarnover 2018 Teacher Snapshot

Posted in News by Kate Westlund on Dec 14th, 2017

A self-confessed “technique freak” and “skill junkie,” JC Briar dabbles in all kinds of knitting but has a special fondness for textured knitting and novel construction techniques. Her most recent venture is Stitch-Maps.com, a website for viewing and creating grid-free charts of unparalleled fluidity, authenticity, and beauty.

We are excited to invite JC Briar back for yet another year of Yarnover. No matter what phase of your knitting journey you’re on, you’re sure to find a good class in JC’s offerings: she’s teaching a morning class on set-in sleeves, and an afternoon class on reading charts.

Learn about all 30 classes in the Yarnover 2018 brochure! If you aren't a member yet, join before the end of the year to be able to register with the other early birds.
