March Guild Meeting
MKG-Meeting March Guild Meeting
This month’s meeting will feature Aimee Pelletier and Carly Stipe from Darn. Knit. {Anyway} in Stillwater, MN.
Aimee Pelletier opened Darn Knit Anyway in 2009 in Stillwater, MN. She grew up crafting with her English grandmother during school vacations, but it wasn’t until later in life that she became serious about needle arts. Soon, knitting became a calming activity and valuable creative outlet for her, a mother of two kids. Now, as Aimee begins her 8th year as a shop owner, she’s excited to have created a place where others can find a creative outlet, friendship, and community.
Resident artist Carly Stipe has been with Darn Knit Anyway since the idea was but a twinkle in her cousin Aimee’s eye. Carly is an established fiber artist, most recognized for her duct tape creations that sold in boutiques throughout the Twin Cities. She has also been an educator at the Textile Center in St. Paul and the Phipps in Hudson.
One of the most popular projects in 2016 at Darn Knit Anyway were thrummed slippers. Thrumming is the technique of knitting unspun fiber or roving into your project. The pieces of roving create a soft warm layer in the slipper that you have to feel to believe. The technique of thrumming was new to many of their customers and they loved teaching them this new skill. During their time presenting at the guild meeting, they will talk about roving and thrumming and give you tips and tricks to making the most of your thrumming projects!
Darn Knit Anyway will have kits available to purchase to make these Cadeautje Slippers from Ysolda Teague. Kits contain the yarn, roving, and pattern and cost $41. You can also buy it in pieces. Darn Knit Anyway will accept cash, check, and charge.
Meetings are free and open to the public, however we encourage you to join the Guild so we can continue to offer programs like these.
