After Save the Children's "State of the World's Mothers 2006" report highlighted some simple, low-cost practices that could save newborns' lives (like warming their heads with a knit or crochet cap), Save the Children received numerous calls and e-mails from Americans around the country who wanted to knit and crochet caps for newborns in developing countries.
Each quarter, the Minnesota Knitters' Guild encourages members to knit for a special charity or community service. We are participating in Caps to the Capital as the fourth-quarter service project of the Minnesota Knitters' Guild. Hats will be collected at the December 18th meeting, in time for the Save the Children deadline of January 2007 for this project.
