Wow. Now that Yarnover 2007 is over, it doesn’t seem possible. We plan for a year, and then the big day is here for our annual workshops, keynote speaker, and vendor market. Before we know it, the day ends, with everyone tired and happy.

April 21 turned out to be a hot spring day in St. Paul. At Arlington High School, the site for Yarnover for the past few years, the air conditioning didn’t kick in right away to cool all the rooms effectively, thus making some of us (of a certain age) quite warm. I am very glad I thought to bring a shirt to change into from my sweater. We had some registration bog-down at the beginning of the day; of course, the discussion about food ensued a few times during lunch; some people whined about the door prizes; and a few people complained about what the vendors brought to sell. I don’t see how the Yarnover committee has control over what the vendors sell, but oh well. I am sure there were other various complaints, but overall I think it was a successful day.

The Yarnover committee worked very hard to make this a wonderful event, and I think they succeeded in so doing. We strive to make as many people happy as possible.

Personally, I had a great time. I love seeing everyone smiling and enjoying themselves, which is the whole idea, right? I just wish it wouldn’t fly by so quickly. I thought it was one of the best events ever. I hope most of you feel the same way! We really do appreciate your comments and take them to heart.

We are already planning for next year’s Yarnover, which will be held April 12, 2008. Some people have wondered how we choose the date. Sometimes we need to engage teachers as early as two years ahead of time; many nationally known knitting experts plan many years ahead to accommodate the demand for their services. We schedule Yarnover around important spring holidays, such as Easter and Passover. April 12, 2008, is after Easter and prior to Passover. There will always, somehow, be conflicts with other events (such as next year’s Textile Center Garage Sale), which, unfortunately, cannot be avoided. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause some members.
