Ever since September 11, 2001, all knitters have been concerned about carrying their needles and accessories (scissors, etc.) on board commercial aircraft. We've all heard the horror stories of crafters having their needles and tools confiscated by airport security. Many of us have opted to carry self-addressed stamped envelopes (SASE) to send our needles home if they aren't allowed through the security checkpoint.

Now we have an informational source from the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) that clearly tells us what items are permitted and prohibited. They have a document that lists items that are approved for carry-on, which includes knitting and crochet needles! Yes, knitting needles are indeed on the list of approved items to fly with, but you are best served to print that document from the TSA website http://www.tsa.gov/public/display?theme=177 and take it with you just in case -- along with a SASE to mail your needles back to yourself if security is really that stubborn on the day you travel, or if the TSA rules change.
